InstaMoney loan repayments are collected via an auto-debit mandate set up during the application process. The EMI is deducted automatically from your registered bank account on the due date each month. Missing an EMI results in a late payment fee and a negative CIBIL score impact. Early repayment (prepayment) is allowed and reduces total interest paid, subject to any prepayment charges in your loan agreement.

How Loan Repayment Works on InstaMoney

When you accept a loan on InstaMoney and complete the agreement signing, you set up an auto-debit mandate (also called an e-NACH or UPI mandate). This authorises the system to automatically deduct your monthly EMI from your registered bank account on the same date each month.

You do not need to remember to pay manually. The deduction happens automatically. This is the most reliable way to ensure you never miss a payment.

Your Repayment Schedule

Your repayment schedule is listed in your loan agreement. It shows:

  • The EMI amount due each month
  • The due date each month
  • The breakdown of how much of each EMI goes toward the principal and how much toward interest
  • The outstanding balance after each payment

In the early months of a loan, a larger portion of each EMI goes toward interest. As the outstanding balance reduces with each payment, the interest portion decreases and the principal repayment portion increases. This is called the amortisation structure of the loan.

What Happens If You Miss an EMI?

Missing an EMI has three consequences:

1. Late Payment Fee

A late payment fee is charged by the NBFC lender. The exact amount is specified in your loan agreement. Check this before signing so you are aware of the penalty.

2. CIBIL Score Impact

From January 2026, the RBI has mandated fortnightly credit reporting, meaning missed payments are reflected on your CIBIL score within 15 days rather than the previous 30 to 45 day lag. A missed EMI stays on your CIBIL report and reduces your score. Multiple missed payments significantly damage your credit profile.

3. Recovery Action

If EMIs continue to be missed, the NBFC will initiate a recovery process. Under RBI’s Fair Practices Code, recovery agents cannot use abusive language or contact you at unreasonable hours. However, formal recovery proceedings can affect your credit file and financial standing.

If You Are Struggling to Repay: Do This First
Contact InstaMoney support before your due date, not after. Early communication gives you more options. Waiting until after a default has already occurred limits what can be done. Use the Help section in the app or write to cs@instamoney.app.If you have a formal complaint about recovery behaviour, raise it at instamoney.app/grievance and escalate to the RBI’s Complaint Management System at cms.rbi.org.in if not resolved.

How to Repay Your Loan Early (Prepayment)

You can repay your InstaMoney loan before the tenure ends. This is called prepayment or foreclosure. Paying early reduces your total interest cost because interest is charged only on the outstanding balance.

Before prepaying, check your loan agreement for prepayment charges. Some NBFC partners charge a prepayment fee, typically a percentage of the outstanding principal. If the fee is small relative to the interest you would save, early repayment makes financial sense.

To initiate prepayment, use the app’s loan management section or contact InstaMoney support.

Repayment Tips for a Healthy Financial Profile

  1. Always keep sufficient balance in your bank account on your EMI due date. Set a calendar reminder 2 to 3 days before the auto-debit date.
  2. Check your CIBIL score 30 days after your first EMI to confirm the repayment has been reported correctly. From 2026, reporting is fortnightly, so your score should reflect recent payments quickly.
  3. Avoid applying for new loans while you have an active EMI, unless absolutely necessary. Multiple active loans reduce your CIBIL score and future borrowing capacity.
  4. If you receive a bonus or unexpected income, consider making a partial prepayment. Even a partial reduction in outstanding principal reduces your future interest burden.

How do I repay my InstaMoney loan?

InstaMoney loan repayments are collected via an auto-debit mandate set up during the application process. The EMI is automatically deducted from your registered bank account on the due date each month. No manual payment is required if the mandate is active and your account has sufficient balance.

What happens if I miss an EMI on InstaMoney?

Missing an EMI on an InstaMoney loan results in a late payment fee charged by the NBFC lender, and the default is reported to credit bureaus within the next fortnightly reporting cycle, which negatively affects your CIBIL score. If you are facing difficulty, contact InstaMoney support at cs@instamoney.app before the due date.

Does missing an EMI affect my CIBIL score?

Yes. From January 2026, the RBI mandates fortnightly credit reporting. A missed EMI will appear on your CIBIL report within 15 days. This reduces your credit score and can affect future loan applications. Consistent on-time payments have the opposite effect: they improve your score over time.

Can I repay my InstaMoney loan early?

Yes. Early repayment is allowed on InstaMoney loans. It reduces your total interest cost because interest is charged on the outstanding balance. Before prepaying, check your loan agreement for any prepayment charges. To initiate early repayment, use the loan management section of the app or contact InstaMoney support.

Is there a prepayment penalty on InstaMoney?

Whether a prepayment penalty applies depends on the NBFC partner who issued your loan. The specific terms are in your loan agreement. Review your agreement before making an early payment. If no penalty applies, prepaying any time after at least one EMI is usually a financially smart decision.

How do I set up auto-debit for my EMI?

Auto-debit is set up during the loan application process, before you sign the agreement. You authorise an e-NACH or UPI mandate that permits the EMI to be deducted automatically each month. If your mandate failed or you need to update your bank account, contact InstaMoney support through the app.
